FCP Part I Candidate FAQ

What is the exact format of the Part I questions?
The exam consists of 150 Single Best Answer (SBA) MCQs. Unlike other fellowships that use 5 options, the FCP(SA) utilizes a "best of 4 options" format.
Is there a penalty for incorrect answers?
No. There is no negative marking in the FCP(SA) Part I. You should ensure no question is left blank.
How does Cohen's Method affect my preparation?
Because the pass mark is set as a percentage (e.g., 65%) of the 95th percentile of the current cohort's scores, your performance is relative to your peers. This method rewards consistency across the entire paper.
Why is a calculator required for an Internal Medicine exam?
A standard calculator is required for questions involving clinical mathematics, such as calculating acid-base disturbances, renal clearance, and physiological gradients.
What are the eligibility requirements?
Admission to the Part I/Primary examination requires a valid medical qualification (MBChB or equivalent) and current registration to practice medicine.
